Excluding people from the Org Chart

Control who appears on your organization chart with conditional rules.

You will often find that there are people within your chart who you wish to exclude, this is especially true when using Entra Id as a data source as this will often contain service, administration and test accounts as well as regular users. To exclude these people, use the Conditional Formatting Rules feature.

A rule consists of two parts:

A condition which checks if certain information in each box or item in the organization chart meets a specific requirement, like "JobTitle equals Director" or "Country equals USA."

One or more actions to take if the condition is met. To exclude people from the chart use the Exclude from Chart action

Rules are continously evaluated and apply the required effects to the chart dynamically.

When using TeamOrgChart in a web browser, access the Conditional Rules page from the administrator menu, or from the Configuration menu in Microsoft Teams.

This page lets you create and manage the rules that support your chart.

Create a new rule using the Add New Rule button.

Add an expression to the rule by clicking Add an expression button.

Expressions can involve multiple fields, combined with AND and OR. For example a rule could test if each chart entry has:country equal to 'USA' AND department contains 'SALES'.

Once the expression has been entered, click Save

The example in the screenshot identifies people whose job title contains 'Director'. Note string matching within TeamOrgChart is case-insensitive.

Next add one or more Actions to the rule. These are the effects that are triggered when the rule is evaluated.

To hide people from the chart use the Exclude From Chart action. When applied to a chart entry, this will remove them from the chart and any search results.

Tip: Prior to apply the “Exclude” action, use the “Change Color” action to easily identify whether you are targeting the correct people.
